Overview
While working at Strange Animals, the Fitafy project was a comprehensive frontend development initiative where I played a key role in integrating the site with Craft CMS and implementing Lottie animations.
The project emphasised innovative solutions and effective problem-solving to meet client needs and maintain high standards. Through close collaboration with designers and rigorous testing, we delivered a high-quality, user-centric website.
Challenges
The Fitafy project presented several key challenges that required innovative solutions:
- CMS Integration: Ensuring seamless integration with Craft CMS for client customisation of panels and content. This included fail-safe code practices, such as restricting fields to appropriate content types.
- Animation Integration: Collaborating with designers to incorporate Lottie Animations within Craft CMS, requiring frequent updates to meet deadlines while maintaining high quality.
- Skill Application and Quality Control: Leveraging all my acquired skills to maintain high standards in code quality, design consistency, and performance optimisation.
- Time Management: Balancing development speed with thorough testing and quality assurance to meet project deadlines without compromising quality.
- Effective Communication: Maintaining clear and consistent communication with the design team, development team, and clients to align expectations and efficiently incorporate feedback.
Process
The frontend development process for Fitafy was streamlined and thorough:
- Independent Craft CMS Integration: Developed frontend components independently, ensuring tight integration with Craft CMS for customizable content management.
- Efficient Testing and Review: Conducted comprehensive testing and reviews of each panel's code before deployment to ensure functionality across devices.
- Collaborative Refinement: Engaged in regular discussions with clients and team members to refine features and implement modifications.
- Performance Optimization: Implemented optimizations such as image compression and code minification to enhance site performance.
- Responsive Design Implementation: Ensured responsiveness across all devices using modern CSS techniques.
- Accessibility and SEO Focus: Adhered to accessibility standards (WCAG) and optimized for search engines to improve usability and visibility.
- Version Control and Deployment: Managed code changes using Git and employed systematic deployment strategies across multiple environments.
Results & Impact
The Fitafy project required the full application of my skills developed at Strange Animals. I was responsible for developing the majority of the frontend independently, migrating content from the old CMS to the new Craft CMS I built, and obtaining client approval.
Working with the designers to integrate our animated assets highlighted the importance of clear communication and strong collaboration between different teams. The project successfully delivered a high-quality, user-centric website that met the clients needs and expectations.
